River packs

download comparative river packs on the River Thames, the Yangtze, the Hooghly, the Liesbeek, the Nile and the Papaloapan.

Watch this space for new educational resource material about the Rivers of the World. Soon we will upload resources on the following rivers: Capibaribe, Tiete, and Suzhou Creek.

The six river themes are:

River of Life
The river's ecosystems and distinctive plants, and the different wildlife that lives in and around each waterway. Fishing is also covered under this topic as is death and disaster on the river.
Polluted River
This theme looks at the city’s efforts to keep their river-water clean, looking at drinking water, sewerage, pollution and how these issues have changed over time. 'Lost' rivers are also covered under this theme.
Resourceful River
This theme examines the effects on each river of global warming, flooding, dams and irrigation. The river as a border, a line of defense and a trading route is also covered here.
Working River
People whose lives and livelihood depend on the river including docks and boat yeards, ferries and working boats
River City
The changing relationship between the river and the city including bridges and tunnels; important riverside buildings, cafes, bars and restaurants.
River Culture
River festivals and sporting events; the river in film, poetry and art; the river as a sacred place; moored boats and other tourist attractions.
