Brampton Manor workshop page
Brampton Manor School is a multi-cultural comprehensive secondary school situated in East Ham in East London and has around 1600 students and over 100 staff. Brampton Manor is the second biggest school in Newham, East London. It also was awarded specialist status as an Arts College.
Unlike some other schools in London, the official school day starts at 8:15 with either registration or assembly and finishing at 2:20 or 1:20 on Fridays for students who do not have period 5 - one hour earlier than most. This gives pupils the opportunity to organise their time, leaving the afternoon at their leisure. As a result of this, the morning break was shortened to 15 minutes and a longer 30 minute break instead of an hour break. A new sports hall was built in 2005 and the old sports hall is currently been developed into a new drama studio with a theatre at the front as Brampton Manor is now a specialist performing arts school.
Our final polluted mutants
Some Information on our school and our ideas for our polluted river art work.
Tarai:
Brampton Manor is a school near west ham football ground and the 02 right next to the Thames. The river thames is very polluted. There is a project to clean the thames and it has been going for about ten years.
The river was once called the dead river because there was nothing living in the thames. It now has salmon, seahorses and other creatures living in it.
The tap water that people drink has been through 7 people before that person has drunk it.
While we were working on the project we had to draw weird people which were half human and half animal. We each drew about 3 of the creatures each.
Alfie:
Brampton manor school is a school in east London not too far from the river Thames and the docks. The water is full of rubbish pollution from boats and careless people. We have been looking at an abstract view of the river, seeing every little detail, like the bacteria in the water, and twisted pictures of what that bacteria would look like and how we can show it. We looked at some Victorian ideas of how they thought the Thames was, and how they never understood bacteria and thought it was a microscopic, grotesque beast. Although the river Thames is very polluted, it is getting increasingly clean, and is one of the cleaner rivers in this project, compared to other rivers in this project, the Thames is clean. But a nasty fact about it is if you drink water from your tap, it has been drunk already before by at least 7 people.

Your River
The Thames is a major river flowing through southern England. While best known because its lower reaches flow through central London, the river flows through several other towns and cities, including Oxford, Reading and Windsor.
The river gives its name to the Thames Valley, a region of England centred around the river between Oxford and West London, and the Thames Gateway, the area centred around the tidal Thames and the Thames Estuary to the east of London.
