Shanghai Changzheng Secondary School
Shanghai Changzheng Secondary School is a day school in Putuo District. It covers an area of 31 mu ( 23,300 square meters ). The floor space is 13,600 square meters and 35﹪of the campus is covered with trees and flowers. The campus is beautiful and has an atmosphere of culture.
There are 110 staff and more than 1,200 students at the school. Over 20 teachers are senior secondary school teachers. More than 50﹪ of the teachers are middle and senior secondary school teachers. Since 1998, the school has employed foreign experts from America, Canada and Britain to teach spoken English. In 2001, the school signed a friendly exchange agreement with the Ashcombe School in U.K., conducting exchanges in education and teaching. The school has already successfully held 6 Spoken English Festivals and British Cultural Weeks, which have had a great influence in the surrounding districts and in the city as a whole. The media were very interested in these activities and reported them, such publications as Jiefang Daily, Wenhui Daily, Xinmin Evening, Shanghai Students’ Post, BBC TV and Independent.
Principal Li Haitang places great emphasis on arts education. With his enthusiastic support, painting and calligraphy shows for teachers and students have been held several times at school. The school has established an art gallery to display the artwork of students and teachers. In terms of art teaching, the school focuses on skills and originality in junior classes and on appreciation in senior classes. The students have two periods of art a week. In addition, we have painting classes for junior and senior students after class, which enriches the life of the students. In recent years, about 30 teachers have been abroad on international educational exchange programs, among whom were 4 art teachers.
The school is one of the first schools to win the title of Model Unit of Behavior Code for Shanghai Middle and Secondary School Students, issued by the Municipality. The school pays attention to moral education and the development of a behavior code. The school enjoys a good reputation among parents as well as within the whole society for its good school spirit and positive learning environment. Recently the teaching quality has been improving, thus winning a good reputation in education circles.
