Welcome to Rivers of the World
Rivers of the World is a Thames Festival arts project hosted in an ever increasing number of cities around the world – each year two new countries join the project (Mexico and Brazil in 2008).
London schools are linked with schools overseas. The pupils study their river (river packs) and are encouraged to share their findings (school projects). During a programme of art workshops, professional arts facilitators help pupils create large river-themed artworks for public display.
The artworks created by all the schools involved in Rivers of the World are exhibited along the banks of the River Thames as part of the Thames Festival. Artworks are also displayed in high profile locations in each of the participating cities.
The following rivers (and partnered cities) are involved in Rivers of the World
- River Thames (London, UK)
- Yangtze River (Chongqing, China)
- River Hooghly (Kolkata, India)
- River Liesbeek (Cape Town, South Africa)
- River Nile (Cairo, Egypt)
- Suzhou Creek and Huangpu River (Shanghai, China)
- River Tietê, (Sao Paulo, Brazil)
- River Capibaribe (Recife, Brazil)
